Joe Ahern is a webbed-toed human who is fond of pizza. He’s allergic to cats and dogs, but he enjoys their company provided it’s not in a room with wall-to-wall carpeting. During the pandemic, Joe directed and co-wrote his first feature, The Disappearance of Toby Blackwood, which screened at the Portland Film Festival, Maui Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Comedy Film Festival. It won the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize at the Gasparilla Int’l Film Festival, as well as the Audience Choice Award at the Bare Bones Film Festival and Richmond International Film Festival. Freestyle Digital Media distributed the film in December of 2022. His latest feature script, Bachelor Party Manhunt, co-written with Dylan Tanous, was named a Semifinalist at the 2023 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition.
Before directing his first feature, Joe was the Script Coordinator on 68 Whiskey (Paramount Network). Prior to that, he worked on The Guest Book (TBS), Raising Hope (FOX), and the CBS series, The Millers, where he co-wrote the season one finale. Joe’s hour-long pilot, In Virch, was named a Semifinalist in the 2020 Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest. In 2019, his half-hour pilot, Beantowners, was named one of the Top 75 Pilots of the Year in the Tracking Board Launch Pad Pilot Competition. Joe co-created the web series, Driving Arizona, which was a Finalist at the NYTV Fest / Comedy Central Short Pilot Contest. The series has been featured on BuzzFeed, The Huffington Post, and Tubefilter. He has written and directed several short films that have played at film festivals across the country.
